SPACETHERAPY™

The concept of designed space influencing human behavior is gaining more significance in architecture educations. Spaces are more than just rooms, large enough for an activity…they may be considered as behavioral settings, where even subtle aspects may have long lasting positive or negative effects on the occupants…

IT WORKS LIKE THIS…

We “submit” to any space’s physical, social, psychological, or aesthetic restrictions

This “submission,” over time, impacts behavior as we “adapt” to the “demands” and offerings of the space

The adaptation represents a change in our life experience that may be positive or negative.

SPACE AFFECTS BEHAVIOR…THE SPACETHERAPY™ STORY

Every room you live in and work in affects you.  Most of us are unaware of our interconnection to “designed” spaces.

At this moment the design of your intimate or social personal spaces may be affecting your experience!

A SPACETHERAPY™ CONSULTATION IS A FASCINATING ADVENTURE IN HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE

Your personal environments may reveal aspects of your relationships with others in the way furniture is arranged for  conversations or the colors of the walls.  Usually, even a modest edit of the design elements in a space may dramatically change the way the space is used as a new adaptation begins.

The consultation is a 3 step process

1…INTERVIEW     An in-space interview interactively involves you in giving a “tour” (a complete walk-through) of your personal environment, and discusses with you any concerns you may have about how the space is used and your experiences within it. Often, core behavior issues are discovered during this walk-through as your comments along the way in describing the spaces, may reveal deep feelings you never realized you had. This is the key part in starting the space “healing” process for a more positive experience.

2…MAKING CHANGES   Often changes may be made on the spot, and can be as simple as moving a piece of furniture or changing the location of a lamp or changing traffic patterns.  Other changes may require a color change or relocation of furniture to other spaces.  Seldom would structural changes be requested as the goal of SpaceTherapy™ is to use what you already have, but modify it for the highest and best use.

3…FOLLOW-UP   A SpaceTherapy™ consultation brings forth immediate new patterns of use, which right away will start to impact experience. After 2 weeks of living with the “new pattern” you will be contacted for your evaluation of the changevitruvian man web logo copy

As the logo suggests, it’s possible that our personal environments do not give us the best and most balanced experience attainable.  No one is immune to the power and impact of designed space on experience, and over time, behaviors may be influenced.

SpaceTherapy™ was co-founded in 1995, and has been doing pre- and post design consultations for all clients in all kinds of projects to bring about the “highest and best use” of the designed spaces. These spaces are actually personal environments for the home, office, or any space where any important activity is designed to happen…

The principles of SpaceTherapy™ go well beyond interior design or even Feng Shui, in evaluating and fine tuning spaces for optimum behavioral experience.
