GLYPHIC 3-D ARTWORK

I was the winner of a Nation Design Competition to design a Vietnam Veterans Memorial for the state of Maine… The design expression I choose rather than a sculpted solid was a cut-out or glyphic void representation of 2 soldiers supporting a wounded 3rd comrade…The image was cut-out through corten® steel with back reinforcing…At the time it represented the largest sculpture in Maine…The sunlight would shine through and project the cut-out image to a back wall of stainless steel with the sunlit “silhouette” of the 3 soldiers…always moving, always changing…

Vietnam Memorial

This project began a study of cut-outs or glyphics that played with the sunlight and shadow…Sunlight is constantly changing, and I wanted to bring this vital energy into the artwork I produced in this way whenever possible…I entered several national competitions (see under the DESIGN COMPETITIONS heading), and although my designs weren’t chosen I delight in their conception… I still do them occasionally, but not as often as I used to, but commissions are always welcomed…
